Structural analysis

In order to analyze the original structure, we dug a hole to measure the depth of the foundation and to confirm if there was ground beams (the building was so old that we could't find the drawings).

Structural Reinforcement

The original space was divided into three small room, which made it hard for students to have leisure activities in it. To solve this problem, we decided to break the existed brick wall to merge three small room into a large one. After structural analysis, wing walls were chose to reinforce the structure. We used ETABs to design the wing wall and conducted a scaled experiment to make sure our design was feasible.

Shuei Li
Wood Factory
Workshop

After designing the student space, we went to Shuei Li Wood Factory to learn the woodwork and make the loft's component and furniture. During the workshop, we designed the furniture on Google Sketch UP, then made it ourself. We started from choosing the wood, gluing, clamping, cutting, trimming, polishing, waxing, and assemble.
